Why Buy My Backyard
Millions of Australians own backyard land they can't sell. Buy My Backyard was built specifically to give those homeowners a path to income that didn't exist before.
Our Mission
The average Australian homeowner in a metro suburb has a backyard they use occasionally, can't subdivide, and whose land value sits completely unrealised. Council rules designed for a different era, the cost and complexity of building, and the lack of an accessible lease structure combine to keep that value locked away.
Buy My Backyard was created to remove every one of those barriers. We manage the build, we document the lease, we find the tenant. The homeowner ends up with income from land they already own — structured, legally documented, and ongoing.
We don't believe homeowners should need a builder, a lawyer, a property developer, and a leasing agent just to earn from their own land. We bring all of that together under one managed programme.
The founding principle behind Buy My Backyard — and the insight that drives every decision we make.
What We Handle
Here's exactly what Buy My Backyard takes off your plate — and what stays with you as the homeowner.
Our Commitments
We operate on the basis that a homeowner deciding to allow a secondary dwelling to be built on their land and documented with a 99-year lease is making a significant decision. It deserves complete transparency.
If your property doesn't qualify, we'll tell you straight — with clear reasons and no pressure. We don't proceed with properties that aren't genuinely suitable for the programme.
Every element of the arrangement — the build contract, the lease, the rights of both parties — is formally documented. You are encouraged to have every document reviewed by your own solicitor.
We keep you informed at every stage — approval updates, construction milestones, lease progress. You will never need to chase us to find out what's happening with your property.
We actively encourage homeowners to seek independent legal advice before signing any agreement. This is not a formality — it's the right thing to do, and we'll pause the process to allow time for it.
Every dwelling we build is constructed to council-approved specifications by licensed builders and inspected at all required stages. The dwelling needs to be of lettable quality — we build to that standard.
Your property title is never at risk. A land lease is not a sale, not a mortgage, and not a subdivision. You own your land and your home throughout — and the lease protects your rights as the landowner.
The free assessment is the first step — and it costs nothing. We'll review your property and get back to you within 48 hours.
